Description:
The ideal volunteer will assist with organizing and maintaining various library reprint collections within the Department of Botany at the National Museum of Natural History.

Duties include:
Culling and organizing scientific reprint publications (as instructed by researcher).
Sorting and organizing publications by author and year.
Separating duplicate publications.
Transferring organized reprints into archival reprint boxes; labeling boxes accordingly.
Alphabetizing and organizing small reprint collections to subsequently incorporate into existing library (again, check for duplication).
Possibly process select unique reprints to be cataloged by Smithsonian Libraries.

Description:
The Department of Invertebrate Zoology has begun moving into renovated space at the Natural History Museum. We are seeking assistance with relocating our dry collections stored at the Museum Support Center in Suitland, MD to the Natural History Museum on the Mall in Washington, DC.
These collection moves require some light to moderate lifting and full mobility to reach overhead and down to the floor while holding collection specimens that could weigh as much as 30 pounds apiece.

Description:
The department of Paleobiology's collection contains over 40 million fossils. To properly help manage and document the collections the department of Paleobiology requires the aid of a volunteer to assist the collections management staff with various fossil based projects. Candidates will be assigned a specific project and be giving one-on-one training and education to be able to carry out the specified task. Occasionally the Collections Assistant will be asked to help the collections management staff with other ad-hoc projects.
Projects you could be involved with include:

Fossil photography
Constructing special cradles and housings for fragile specimens
Fossil cataloguing and information management
Fossil conservation (cleaning, repairing, chemically treating of fossils for their long-term preservation)
Collection reorganization
